restlicht english

(german version here)

„Restlicht“ is about contemporary, experimental silent films with a live soundtrack on the edge of visibility, exploring the limits of cameras and our perception. Night vision cameras, night shots, backlit shots and trail cams provide the material, which tells a story in several layers.

restlicht is narrative without a certain plot. restlicht works with the power of cinematic means and with an associative and mystical degree of abstraction, which opens up space for the viewer’s imagination and individual poetry.

The live soundtrack is played with accordion and electronics in the sense of a cinema organ 2.0: a powerful wall of sounds, in the field of atonality, pure sound experience and fragments of melodies and harmonies. Played live with a digitized accordion, which triggers three synthesizers parallel to the sound of its reeds in an external computer: a low-frequency foundation, accented sounds and soundscapes modulated by the movement of the accordion’s bellows. The aesthetics of the film accompaniment is characterized by elements of classic silent film accompaniment, free jazz and (dark) ambient/noise.

A restlicht live performance lasts 20-30 minutes, depending on the performance setting.
